WINZ rates are now up to “where they should be” according to an anonymous Clear Channel source. You can bet that Miami Heat sponsorship packages are priced at what the market will bear, and will sell out. Anecdotal evidence suggests that local hotels and restaurants are seeing an uptick in interest.
The radio and TV rights contracts for this season will not change. Radio rights will cost more for the following season, while Sun Sports has a few more years left on their TV contract. Expect lots more opportunity from CC and SS. Remember, CC has 9 hours of programming on WINZ/WBGG around Miami Dolphins games, expect the same for the Miami Heat games. And no, I cannot get you Miami Heat Tickets, but thanks for asking.
Someone should probably correct some of the things reported in terms of radio inventory and rights fees. The Heat own almost all the inventory inside the 2 1/2 hour game broadcast. They also own the inventory in the Heat pre-game and post-game shows on 940. CC will likely do a pre pre-game show and a post post-game show and if clients will buy that thinking it’s Heat programming, then so be it. Buyer beware!!
The current rights deal on CC for the Heat is really a barter arrangement. Heat get the inventory and clearance and CC gets the programming plus a chance to sell ancillary programming around it – like the weekly Heat Magazine Show.
Hope this clears up the rumors and mis-stated facts floating around the market!
Same thing with Dolphins. The team owns all the inventory 2 hours closest to kick-off, the whole game and the two hours immediately after the game. The team also owns all the inventory in the Dolphins daily show on 940 whenever that starts. So CC will be selling the pre pre-game show and the post post-game show as Dolphins programming up against WQAM and WAXY’s Dolphins pre and post-game coverage. Double buyer beware!!
