The Chicago Tribune architecture critic is not happy with naming rights plans:
Look, Mayor Emanuel, it’s early in your first term and everybody makes mistakes. But now that you’ve won a political victory — the City Council having unanimously passed your budget Wednesday — you ought to figure out how to avoid another aesthetic embarrassment as a result of your push to reap $25 million by selling ad space on everything from city-owned buildings to city websites.
Which means this: Remember that public space is our public space — as in, we the people, who paid for it and who maintain it with our tax dollars.
