Outdoor advertising companies have been on the receiving end of grief and protest since Lady Bird Johnson was on the campaign trail with her husband.
Lamar Advertising has turned the tables… those aren’t just billboards, they’re green energy producers. Lamar is spending upwards of $12 million to install solar and/or wind generators on 1,300 billboards in Florida.
So Lamar has killed two birds with one stone. First, they developed a new revenue stream by selling renewable energy to the grid. Second, they are defusing the argument that their boards are nothing but blight on the landscape. Gotta give ’em credit for creativity.
